OLD SKY BOX CATCHES FIRE:
Many members may not be aware of the possible danger
A warning older Sky Box attached to a Television.
Smoke was coming from mine. I removed the essential plug.
No more smoke BUT
If I had been upstairs, I would not have seen the smoke and the house would have caught on fire.
Sky did have information about the installment date so identified the unit as an older type.
One would never suspect a fire could start.
The unit was replaced without cost and all safe again.
The Fire Brigade now going to create a pattern for smoke alarms.

And a quick Hello from Queensland where it's basically rained for the last week.
Interesting fact - the State of Queensland has more land under water than the square area of the state Victoria.

Miramar Bowling Club 06/03/25 Update...
MEN:
Hello to you all.
The men completed the Open Champ Singles over the weekend with some very close games and dramatic finishes. One in particular saw Dave Shedlock down 19 -17 to Rob Ashton with Rob holding 2 shots for game. In true, sometimes unorthodox play by Shedlock with only one bowl on the head Dave drove and put the kitty in the ditch. After the dust settled to Rob’s shock and horror Dave was holding 4 shots and won the game. The final between the two Dave’s was a slight anti-climax with Dave Allen winning comfortably and defended the title he has now won 4 years in a row. Congratulations Dave.
Next Saturday the 8th we hope to complete the semifinals and final of the Men’s Pairs.
Monday night at Island Bay was the Twilight 3 Fives with Miramar once again on the losing side of very close games.
On Wednesday the 12th we continue with Men’s Pennants at home against Johnsonville and a good run home in the second round could see us in a spot for promotion.
Good bowling to you all.
Men’s Match CommitteeMike Andrews
SO A LITTLE BIRDIE TOLD ME...
Imagine the scene: after a day at the Wellington First Year Mens Singles, our guy's halfway home when the phone rings. "You've got the wrong bowls!" they say. He, of course, insists they're mistaken – new bag, name tag, the works! But, with his passenger the likely culprit, a quick boot check revealed the truth. Somehow, despite his legendary attention to detail, he definitely had the wrong bowls. Cue a sheepish U-turn to reclaim his precious bowls capping off a pretty big day.

KYLIE'S KITCHEN:

WOMEN:
No play for women this weekend.
Saturday 1st March - Champ Pairs

MEN:
Another busy three days of bowls.
On Saturday, the final round of pairs where played between Jim Swift & Dave Allen vs Rob Ashton & Pat Flemming. Rob, needing a win to make the semifinals, unfortunately lost, allowing Keith Hastings & Phil Davies to take the fourth qualifying spot. It’s intended to play the semifinals followed by the final on the 8th of March with the 9th a back-up day.
The rest of Saturday 15th, and Sunday 16th was used to make progress with the Men’s Singles. Three players have two lives intact were Shedlock will play Ashton & Flemming a buy into the next round. Of the players who still have one life Mr Bowls ( Phil Davies) will play the winner between Mousie (Dave Allen ) & Michelle (Mike Andrews). Keith Hastings will play Tiger(Jim Scott). These games will be played on 1st & 2nd March with a possible final to take place. Mr Bowls has a potential dilemma as if he survives Saturday's play Sunday clashes with a first-year bowlers competition at Silverstream. I’m sure we can sort something out should there be a clash.
Monday night at Victoria Bowling Club saw the continuation of the Twilight 3Fives. In a very entertaining evening Miramar 1 and Miramar 2 lost their games in a tie break to Seatoun.
There are no club champs next weekend as there will be a break while the Nationals in Christchurch are being played. Wishing Lou Newman & Rob Ashton all the best down there.
