~ HAPPY 80TH BIRTHDAY DAYLE ~

Last Sunday we were all priviledged to share in our much loved Doyenne of Wellington and Miramar Bowls' 80th Birthday.

Miramar Juniors at Silverstream - Labour Weekend

Four junior teams representing Miramar played at silverstream, weather was poor day 2.

Teams all played well and some money was won.

One player was wearing his shirt inside out because he never one a game  in two days and didn't want to embarrass the club - rumour has it one team dropped an 8. Apparently that's never been done before at this tournament.

Good time had by all. Mark Matthew was seen with his head down  I guess that says something about the bowls

ISLAND BAY - PETER GRECCO GALA

Well done to the Miramar bowlers who played in the annual Peter Grecco 2 day gala. Miramar had 5 teams entered out of 22👏👏👏.

2 teams made the top section after first-days-play which was a great achievement

Thank you to our loyal supporters Dave S, Greg,  Mark, Chris, Alf and Lou.

Final results

Dave A and Nina 2nd in first division

Hughie and Keith 1st in 2nd  (13th)

The game of the weekend was between Hughie and Keith vs Jacko and Phil. One team took the match serious whilst the other team thought let's celebrate now.

Look at the pictures and Guess which team 😅🤣😅

Official opening of the 2024/2025 season
was held today at 1.00pm Sat 7 September

Hope it’s not a sign of what lies ahead this bowling season. It was a tad too windy to have the President v Vice President club opening tourney, yesterday, so games - still fun - were confined to indoors.

But first, Club Patron, Jenny Findleton, did the honours.

Seventy-eight years ago, the Miramar Bowling Club was born from a sponsored Meeting on the 27th of November after forty men with the support of the Wellington Bowling Centre, negotiated with the Wellington City Council to lease land at the southern end of Miramar Park.

The lease was for a period of 21 years with a right of renewal. The ground rental was £29 plus rates but payment not to commence until after five years of occupancy.

In 1946 a further public meeting was held and rules adopted for the embryo club and approval given for the issue of debentures. In May 1948 131 debentures had been issued and all repaid by 1950. The club became incorporated in January 1946.

The club was open for play on one green on November 1946.

Rents & Rates today over $12,000

In 1946 approx. $400.00

Jim and a team of volunteers spread the topsoil on our green this Sunday. The winter maintenance preparations will hopefully make our green one of the best in Wellington next year. Lots of hard work has been put in by Jim and our members.

Plus the framework for the sun shades have been erected.

Thanks also to Anna and her team for a delicious morning tea.
